Lomi Lomi Hawaiian Massage Diploma

Our Lomi Lomi Massage course is aimed at qualified therapists who are looking to extend the range of therapies that they offer.

Participants on this course should therefore already hold a Level 3 Diploma in Massage (eg ITEC, BTEC, VTCT, or similar).

The course lasts 5 days.

You will receive an accredited certificate at the end of the course.

Lomi Lomi is a flowing massage from the islands of Hawaii.  It has its origins in several different Hawaiian practices:

  • As a healing practice of native Hawaiian healers
  • As a luxury and an aid to digestion, especially by the ruling chiefs
  • As restorative massage within the family
  • By masters of the Hawaiian martial arts

As Lomi Lomi has been taken all over the world and modified to the practices of many different countries, it has developed many related but slightly different forms.   However, certain aspects of Lomi Lomi are universal and it is particularly known for its long, continuous strokes, sometimes running the entire length of the body.  Practitioners uses both hands and forearms and the amount of contact often causes clients to say it's like being massaged by more than one person.

The massage training and practice integrates physical and energetic healing techniques with flowing forearm movements, breath, presence, aloha and sacred space.  Lomi Lomi massage explores the Huna Philosophy, Hawaiian breathing and energy balance.  It also emphasises the importance of intent, focus, movement and practitioner care within the performance of the massage.

Students will learn an unique combination of flowing movements, dance-like rhythm, energy and massage in which the practitioner follows specifically choreographed patterns of foot placement and body posture while the hands, arms and elbows sweep over the body, creating a very fluid and rhythmic massage.

The long, continuous movements from top to toe mean that the client is completely un-clothed, while being covered by a small cloth where necessary.

Lomi Lomi needs practice, so this course takes 5 days, split into to sections of 3 days and 2 days over the period of a month.  Students will take a short theory exam as well as a practical test on the final day.  Students are also required to submit 9 case studies (3 clients, 3 treatments each).  These case-studies can be submitted after the final exam has been completed if necessary.
